I was wondering, What book or video is your favorite out of your collection?

1. Make a personal Connection
Make a personal connection with your spectators. I cannot stress this enough. As with movies or storytelling, in every show, people expect to understand who you are, what you are doing, and why you are doing it.
A simple introduction will suffice for who you are and what you are doing. But the Big question is WHY?
Take for instance, Tommy Wonder in his famous effect: the ring, the watch, and the wallet. In his opening line he says, “Do you have your hands on your wallet? … I’m not a pickpocket or a robber, I am a magician. But I have been robbed once…”
In Tommy Wonder’s case, he is doing it to help tell a story of something that happened to him. Tommy Wonder makes an emotional connection, because you now feel sad for him because he was robbed once. And we all know that makes you feel like crap.
Emotions drive the world. Once you establish the reason for doing your magic and starting the act. You now have to keep them interested. The best way to do this, is through conflict.
Look at the classic effect, Triumph. Most people’s patter is a drunk person tries messing you up and shuffles it face up into face down.
This adds conflict and it keeps people interested. The spectators are now wondering where you are going with it.

2. Tempo
SLOW DOWN. You have heard it a Million times. It is not that we purposely go fast. But with adrenalin and performance, we seem to speed through it.
Each time you speed through the climax, you are killing the full potential of the effect. I have found there are two ways I practice my magic. One is through music, and the other is through a metronome.
If we go back to Tommy Wonder, the master of misdirection. He explains that every movement is a beat. Keep each beat going to the same rhythm unless it is carefully planned not to be.
That ongoing tempo makes the world of difference. You will find it easier to misdirect and also help you slow down in the parts that need more direction.

3. Think about each move
Dosnt matter what move it is. Even if its moving your hand to the side. Think about it. And ask, does this make sense?
Odds are, you can remove about 1/3 of your moves and make it more direct and straightforward.
To clear it up. All your effect should be:

A sandwich idea in which you cleanly put the jokers on the table. A card is selected, and it appears in between the jokers.
It is a very clever gimmick. I can’t wait to share more!!!

If you haven’t seen it yet, my friend: Christopher Wiehl, released another great product called burn notice.
The idea is to reveal anything you want on a receipt. I find it very clever because you can take the effect in any direction your creativity allows.
I thought yall might want to check it out: You can get it at The Blue Crown here: http://www.thebluecrown.com/store/burn-notice-christopher-wiehl.html
